The best kind of adventure is one with some extra cash in your pocket! In the fall of 2021, Groove Health’s Senior Designer Tim Swanson used his adventure stipend on him and his wife’s anniversary trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (UP). Tim and his wife drove 6.5 hours from Chicago, IL, through Wisconsin, all the way to Munising, MI, to celebrate their first year of marriage.

During their 4-day stay, they backpacked Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, cruised off the shoreline cliffs, window shopped at Marquette, and tried UP favorites like pasties which, unfortunately, did not live up to the hype. They admired gorgeous views of Green Bay, discovered funky-looking mushrooms, and visited private beaches where some parts of the lake looked like it blended into the sky.

Tim and his wife would go back to the UP in a heartbeat. He highly recommends visiting during September or October because of the autumn foliage, something he doesn’t see much while living in downtown Chicago. Tim plans to use future Adventure Stipend funds on a trip to the bewitching city of Salem, MA. Have fun on those spooky ghost tours!
